Home and Away star Johnny Ruffo shares heartbreaking update on brain cancer battle

Home and Away actor Johnny Ruffo has given his fans a health update amid his journey with terminal brain cancer.

The 34-year-old who played Chris Harrington on the Australian soap was initially diagnosed with brain cancer back in 2017. In 2019, Johnny was given the all clear, but just one year later, it had returned and his condition has since progressed to 'terminal'.

Now in his latest social media post, Johnny shared the latest news in his journey, revealing that he is back in hospital. In the snap posted, he can be seen smiling whilst sitting in a hospital chair during a recent visit, giving a thumbs up.

Johnny, who has undergone rounds of chemotherapy over the last few years, appeared to be preparing to have another round of the treatment in the photo, writes The Mirror.

Johnny, who initially rose to fame on The X Factor Australia in 2011, captioned his post: "Back in my favourite chair." He used hashtags that said "I hate this chair" and "f*** cancer".

The post collated over 17,000 likes and many of his followers flocked to the comments to send well-wishes to Johnny. Back in December, Johnny penned that he had completed another year of chemotherapy and would be having "a few weeks break" over the festive period.

He wrote: "Another year of chemotherapy done. It wasn't easy but I made it through. Can't wait to have a few weeks break over Christmas and spend some well earned time with my family".

Johnny first announced his devastating news in 2017 after he underwent an emergency operation that year to remove a brain tumour, after going to the doctors with a migraine.

The actor shared his journey on social media sharing his treatment, including radiotherapy, following the shock diagnosis.

In 2019, he announced that he had "beaten" cancer but then announced in 2020 that his brain cancer had returned. And last year, sadly it was announced that his cancer was terminal.

Speaking last year, he said: "At some point it will get me but I'm still fighting. [...] Looking up my diagnosis and my tumour, the average life expectancy was three years."

"And for me it's now been five years. I'm already winning. My goal now is to try and help as many people as I can and also live a happy life," he further commented on the show.
