Home and Away fans rush to support star amid cancer battle update

Home and Away fans have rushed to offer their love and support to the Australian soap's star Johnny Ruffo - known for playing Chris Harrington - as he continues to battle his cancer diagnosis. In a new update to followers, the actor posted a picture of himself on Instagram from hospital.

"Back in my favourite chair.. #ihatethischair #f***cancer", he wrote in the caption as he shared a snapshot of him smiling with a thumbs up while sat in a medical chair. It comes as the 34-year-old says he is undergoing more treatment after being diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.

Johnny was originally diagnosed with cancer back in 2017, before reportedly becoming cancer-free two years later in 2019. However, in 2020, he announced the disease had returned and last year he revealed that he has terminal cancer, the Mirror reports.

In the Instagram photo, it would seem Johnny was gearing up for a round of treatment, after having undergone round of chemotherapy over the last few years. Since uploading the picture on Wednesday (March 1), it has garnered more than 18k likes, with hundreds commenting their well-wishes.

Fellow Home and Away star Emily Symons replied: "Sending you so much love Johnny." Another one of the show's actor's, Sarah Roberts, put: "Sending so much love @johnny_ruffo," with a heart emoji. A third actress, Georgie Parker, said: " Big love to you mate, big love."

One fan, Becandrew230819, added: "Your an inspiration Johnny! Australia loves you." Susanhenry3489 typed: "Very best wishes from Ireland, I sat in that chair myself, and here I am 13 years later, you can do it...lots of love."

Jo_wu penned: "Keep fighting!!! Praying for miracle upon miracles." Kagc2000 wrote: "Incredible fighter." Kerrieannenewbold said: "Keep up the good fight Johnny."

Last year, Johnny announced that his cancer was terminal. He said on The Project: "At some point it will get me but I'm still fighting. [...] Looking up my diagnosis and my tumour, the average life expectancy was three years."

"And for me it's now been five years. I'm already winning. My goal now is to try and help as many people as I can and also live a happy life," he further commented on the show.
