Holy Fvck: Demi Lovato releases their eighth studio album

Demi Lovato has released their eighth album, and it’s a full-blown rock record.

The 29-year-old singer shared the news of the album release on their Instagram, alongside a compilation video clip of them wearing a black leather bodysuit and a black PVC coat.

They also posted a heartfelt statement with the video: “Holy Fvck gave me the freedom to express myself in ways I didn’t know were possible and find joy I’d been missing when making music. It’s cathartic and grounded, yet exhilarating and a hell of a good time,” said Lovato.

“I don’t know where I’ll be in life in a year, or in five or 10 years – but what I do know is that this record is exactly where I am now, and I am damn proud of it. I hope everyone who listens is too.”

The new album includes features from English musician Yungblud and the American hard rock band Dead Sara.

Holy Fvck is a rock album about rebirth, an ongoing theme for Lovato. The singer has previously shared their experiences with addiction and mental illness, and Holy Fvck continues this openness.

“Holy Fvck, from the title down, then, is a classic shedding-the-pop-facade record, bristling with defiance and real-me rebirth,” said The Independent, while NME called the album “a sonic middle finger”.

Pitchfork said: “It’s genuinely exciting to see Lovato enter chaos mode on Holy Fvck,” adding, “Holy Fvck fulfills its promise of sweaty, angsty excess with a tour through pop-punk and adjacent genres.”

Just two days before Holy Fvck was released, Lovato also shared the single 29, the sixth track on the album, which some fans believed could be a discussion about the age gap between Lovato and their ex-Wilmer Valderrama, who dated for six years. There is a 12-year difference between the two.

The lyrics go: “Just five years a bleeder / Student and a teacher / Far from innocent / What the f***’s consent? / Numbers told you not to / But that didn’t stop you.”

The album’s lead single, Skin of My Teeth, was shared on June 10 and was performed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon the same day.

In a busy month for the singer, Lovato also began their sixth headlining tour, the Holy Fvck tour, on August 13. The tour will see the artist perform in both North and South America, with the last show scheduled for November 6 in Irving, Texas.

This is Lovato’s eighth release since their debut studio album Don’t Forget which was released all the way back in 2008.
