LOS ANGELES (AP) — Hollywood’s elite will gather in Los Angeles for the annual Governors Awards, organized by the film academy’s board of governors. This year's honorees include the late Quincy Jones, James Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, filmmaker Richard Curtis, and casting director Juliet Taylor.

Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson are set to receive the prestigious Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award, following in the footsteps of Broccoli's father, Albert “Cubby” Broccoli, who received the award in 1982. Broccoli expressed humility at the honor, acknowledging those who paved the way before them.

Richard Curtis, known for his work on beloved romantic comedies like “Love, Actually” and “Notting Hill,” will be recognized with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for his lifetime of charitable contributions. Curtis shared that receiving an Oscar was a lifelong dream for him, dating back to his teenage years in the U.K.

Juliet Taylor, a veteran casting director with over four decades of experience, will be honored for her contributions to cinema. Her notable casting credits include films like “Annie Hall” and “Schindler’s List.” Taylor expressed excitement about the honorary Oscar and the upcoming recognition of casting directors by the film academy starting in 2025.

The Governors Awards are known for their emotional tributes to honorees, with friends and colleagues paying homage to recipients. This year's event carries added poignancy following Quincy Jones' recent passing. Despite the loss, plans are in place to honor Jones with a tribute celebrating his life, work, and legacy during the ceremony.
