Hollywood star Rob McElhenney shows class just hours after downing pints with Wrexham fans

Wrexham AFC co-chairman Rob McElhenney continues to enrich himself to fans of the Welsh club as he greeted people while attending a women’s match on Sunday.

McElhenney turned up to watch on as Wrexham faced title rivals and defending league champions Llandudno Ladies. Wrexham came out on top with a 5-2 win at Rhos Aelwyd FC. For Wrexham, this was their second league game of the season so far. Their first contest ended in a stunning 6-0 win away to Llanfair United to open their campaign in style.

To the delight of spectators, McElhenney was seen laughing, chatting and drinking pints with fans. But that wasn't his only interaction with Wrexham fans over the course of the weekend, as he was snapped visiting a local food bank.

McElhenney also watched as Wrexham men’s faced Boreham Wood, and it turned out he was in the area to film a short video for co-chairman Ryan Reynolds’ birthday, which was on Sunday as well. Wrexham Foodbank took to social media to add to the good vibes, thanking McElhenney for his support.

The American acting star re-posted their message on Twitter and replied: “Thank you for having me and for the incredible work you do. Looking forward to many years of partnership!”

Back in November 2020, the American and Canadian actor duo purchased the club amid plenty of fanfare. They have been welcomed by the local community, and the duo regularly engage in light-hearted stunts to help boost the club’s reputation.

McElhenney opted to mark Reynolds' birthday with a blimp flown from Wrexham’s home stadium. The video of the stunt, which featured players and executive director Humphrey Ker, was posted to Twitter by McElhenney along with the caption: “The head and mouth are to scale, but the eyes are 50% more dreamy in real life. Happy Birthday @vancityreynolds from the @Wrexham_AFC Racecourse.”

In the video, Rob said: “To celebrate my co-chairman’s birthday this year I wanted to do something special. I wanted the entire team to run out of Ryan’s giant inflatable mouth at the next match. But I heard that might be bad for player morale.”

The giant inflatable mouth is then seen with the players running out of it before turning and criticising the gesture. Star forward Paul Mullin - who has 11 goals in 13 appearances - mutters: “Idiots.”

With that idea canned, McElhenney comes up with the ‘Ryan Rodney Reynolds Memorial Blimp’, which features Reynolds’ face with the scarred makeup from Deadpool. McElhenney describes it as ‘a hideous but surprisingly inexpensive way for the world to finally see Ryan Reynolds as he’s meant to be seen.”
