Hollywood star goes undercover on the London Underground

Celebrities often claim they live just like the rest of us, but one British actor is proving it by ditching private cars for the London Underground.

Sam Claflin, known for his roles in Me Before You and The Hunger Games, is no stranger to being recognised in public.

However that didn’t stop the 38-year-old from taking an unexpected journey through London, documenting the experience for his four million Instagram followers.

The Peaky Blinders star kicked off his night with a selfie on the Tube, blending in with commuters wearing a black beanie, red hoodie, and denim jacket.

His night of public transport adventure didn’t stop there. Claflin later hopped onto a Timothée Chalamet-approved Lime bike.

The Ipswich native, who is now based in West London, previously told Condé Nast Traveller that the city was one of his favourite places in the world.

Speaking to the outlet in 2020, he said: “London – in the summer, specifically – which I know is a cop-out. I didn’t visit until I was 17.

“I’d never been there on a school trip or anything, but I was drawn to it from what I’d seen in films and on TV and things I’d read.

“It’s home for my children, and I don’t imagine myself ever wanting to live anywhere else. It ticks all the boxes.”

Claflin shares two children with his ex-wife, Laura Haddock: a 10-year-old son, Pip, and a 7-year-old daughter, Margot. The couple split in 2019.

Beyond his family life, the actor has plenty on his plate as he takes on both starring and executive producing roles in the upcoming Amazon Prime thriller Lazarus, alongside Bill Nighy and Alexandra Roach.

The highly anticipated series, which began filming early last year, is created by bestselling author Harlan Coben and screenwriter Danny Brocklehurst—the duo behind Netflix’s hit show Fool Me Once. Unlike their previous adaptations, Lazarus is an original story rather than a book-to-screen adaptation.

In the series, Claflin plays the lead role, nicknamed Laz, with Nighy portraying his on-screen father and Roach as his sister.

While an official release date hasn’t been confirmed, Lazarus is expected to premiere this year, potentially ahead of Coben’s next Netflix project, Run Away.
