Hollywood actor Ben Stiller reveals he's a massive fan of Welsh cycling star Geraint Thomas

Hollywood seems to have a bit of a soft spot for Welsh sport right now.

Wrexham AFC have already become the favoured football club of many a movie star thanks to the takeover from Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, and their name is now known all over the world.

Now, it appears cyclist Geraint Thomas also has some admiration from Hollywood's glitterati.

Thomas currently holds a two-second lead after stage 12 of the Giro d'Italia, with Friday's stage taking the riders to the Alps for the first time this year.

The Welshman is certain to have plenty of support from fans back home, and can also count on the admiration of a celebrity or two, including actor Ben Stiller.

The Zoolander star recently took to social media to seemingly show his backing to Thomas, quote tweeting a post from the rider that referenced the eye-catching 'maglia rosa', which is worn by the race's leader.

Thomas wrote: "Wouldn’t have minded a spot of sun but felt very special to wear the maglia rosa today. Thanks to everyone for their messages over the last couple of days."

Stiller then replied: "Very exciting."

Known for his comedy roles, the actor then congratulated Thomas on a 'dad joke' posted the following day.

The gag went like this: "Did you hear about the Italian chef with a terminal illness? He pastaway. Cannoli do so much. Now he’s just a pizza history."

Impressed, Stiller then posted: "Not afraid to do edgy material. All the more reason to be a fan."

High praise, indeed.
