Hollywood A-lister buys tiny island to raise cows as he ditches acting for farming

House Of Gucci star Jeremy Irons has treated himself to an island, which is next to the castle he owns in Ireland.

The veteran actor, 73, who played Rodolfo Gucci in the Hollywood hit, revealed he's going to raise cows and ponies on the land as he takes a step back from acting.

Speaking to Seth Myers on the Late Night Show, Jeremy was a bit miffed when quizzed about his purchase when he asked the host: "How do you know that?".

However confirming the rumours he said: "I guess I have [bought it]. It's a very small island with a little cottage on it. I can just about swim there from the castle.

"I'm going to put some Kerry ponies and galloway cattle to eat it down. I'm farming a little bit more now than acting."

Jeremy also revealed he got workers to rip down the castle and start again after deciding it didn't look big enough when it was first being built.

"When I looked at it I thought it's wrong, it's too small," he said. "My friend said 'well I'm not telling the builder you tell him'.

"So I climbed up 13 floors of scaffolding and got to the top and said 'this is wonderful what you've built. But actually take it down as we've got to make it bigger. It's not strong enough, it doesn't look strong enough'".

However Jeremy's request didn't go down well as he revealed: "And he [the builder] looked at me and he said 'you know the trouble with working with b****y actors are the b****y rehearsals'.

"But they did knock it down and built it again so they do know I'm an actor."

Mannin Island sits in Poulgorm Bay off the beautiful coast of West Cork.

The land is 200 metres from the front door of Jeremy's Kilcoe Castle, which he bought with his wife Call The Midwife actress Sinead Cusack in 1998.

The island had been on the market since 2014.

Jeremy and Sinead have two sons, who are both actors, Sam, 43, and Max, 36.

Sam starred alongside his father in Danny, the Champion of the World while Max has a number of films under his belt including The White Queen and The Wife.

He also played the lead role of Joseph Turner in spy thriller series Condor.
