Chris Fountain has said he was lucky to have not lost an arm as he opened up further about the devastating mini stroke that he suffered earlier this year.
The former Hollyoaks and Coronation Street actor, 35, said he was left with so many questions when he was hospitalised for five days in August after waking up at home unable to speak properly.
Having conducted tests, doctors found that the cause had been a Transient Ischaemic Attack (TIA) – known as a mini stroke – after a blood clot lodged in his brain.
Appearing on ITV’s This Morning on Tuesday, he told hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby: “The doctor said the word stroke and although it was a mini stroke, as soon as he said it I was looking at him and going why has this happened, will it happen again?
“It was like someone had pulled a rug from underneath me. I keep myself fit and last year did a mad health kick.”
Fountain went on to explain that he felt lucky that it had not been worse, explaining: “As traumatising as it has been, it could have been so much worse for me. I could have lost my arm and my face could have dropped.
The Bradford-born star played the character of Justin Burton in Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks from 2003 until 2009.
He went on to portray the role of Tommy Duckworth in ITV’s Coronation Street from 2011 until 2013 when he was sacked after he posted videos of him rapping about rape under an alter ego called “The Phantom”.
