Holly Willoughby takes extended break from This Morning following family tragedy

Holly Willoughby is taking an extended break from ITV's This Morning in a break from her summer "tradition." The host of the popular daytime show will take a lengthy break and return to TV screens in September.

It comes after the ITV show found itself at the centre of an intense scandal just months ago, following the departure of former presenter Phillip Schofield. The break in tradition comes as Holly prepares from the time away without her former co-host, reports Birmingham Live.

Holly also opted not to address her exit before leaving the show last week. Last year, Holly told fans on Instagram: "Morning Friday… today we take our artwork off the wall and clear out the lockers before we breakup for summer…

"Lots of fun to be had before we go… See you on This Morning at 10am." But on Thursday, Holly, 42, didn't acknowledge her impending two-month break.

"Morning Thursday…", wrote Holly. "See you on This Morning at 10am. @landonorris @jwebbnorth1 @williamhansonetiquette and @marcusbeanchef all on the show with @craigadoyle and me today. Dress by Karen Millen." A TV insider said: "Holly will return after a usual and planned break over the summer.

"Nothing has been pushed forward or changed over the weekend." The mum-of-three is heartbreakingly mourning the passing of her mother-in-law Sandra, alongside husband Dan Baldwin.

"Sleep well Sandra… Nonna, Mother, Sister, friend… To know her was to know strength itself… Raising four children after losing her husband, she then lost a son and more recently her sister… Thank you for your guidance, advice and bottomless Prosecco," she wrote this weekend.

Her tribute continued: "Thank you for raising the incredible man I’m married to… I see your strength everyday in our children… Be at peace…Love you." Her co-star Craig Doyle sent his condolences to Holly after she shared the news.

"I am so sorry for your loss Holly. Condolences to Dan and all the family," Craig typed. This Morning continues to air each weekday from 10am on ITV.
