Holly Willoughby shares cryptic post after Phil Schofield scandal and ITV comeback

Holly Willoughby has hinted at "meaningful coincidences" in a cryptic post on Instagram following her comeback to ITV this week after former co-host Phillip Schofield's dramatic exit. The This Morning presenter shared the post on her lifestyle brand Wylde Moon's account.

The post shared the reasons behind "secret messages from the universe", the Mirror reports. It began: "Are coincidences secret messages from the universe?

"We all love a 'Sliding Doors' moment, but are meaningful coincidences really a sign of beautiful serendipity that hold greater meaning than seemingly 'random' chance? Tap the link in our bio for some answers."

In the accompanying article on Holly's Wylde Moon website, serendipity is defined as when "lovely random or coincidental thing happens by what appears to be complete chance". In an interview with neuroscientist Matt Johnson, it says "humans we have a desire to seek meaning", and he suggested that "breaking habitual routines" will help people find "more meaningful coincidences or serendipitous moments".

The message concludes that life is full of surprises, and encourages readers to "embrace the unexpected and allow serendipity to guide us on our journey". The post seemingly alludes to the the drama surrounding ITV's morning show following Phil's shock exit and confession several weeks ago.

Last month, Phil announced he was leaving This Morning after a meeting with ITV bosses. A week later, the 61-year-old released a statement confirmed he had had an "unwise but not illegal" affair with a much younger male employee who worked at This Morning, and he had lied to ITV bosses when the relationship was investigated in 2020.

Holly kept up a dignified silence on the revelation, posting a brief statement on social media saying she had been "hurt" by Phil's lies over the affair. On her return to This Morning on June 5, Holly spoke directly to viewers about the scandal, telling them she had been left "shaken, troubled and let down".

"You, me and all of us at This Morning gave our love and support to someone who was not telling the truth, who acted in a way that they themselves felt that they had to resign from ITV, and step down from a career that they loved," she said. "That is a lot to process."

"And it’s equally hard to see the toll that it’s taken on their own mental health," Holly added, as she touched upon Phil’s admission during a BBC tell-all interview that he had felt suicidal. "I think what unites us all now is a desire to heal, for the health and wellbeing of everyone."
