Holly Willoughby says she is 'hurt' by Phillip Schofield after he lied to her over affair

Holly Willoughby has said she is 'hurt' by the fact that Phillip Schofield lied to her about his affair with a young This Morning colleague. Holly claims he told her there was no truth to the rumours about the 'unwise but not illegal' relationship, Chronicle Live reports.

On Friday evening, May 26, Phillip confessed to having an affair with the runner behind wife Steph's back and admitting that he had lied to ITV, the media and his own lawyer about what went on. He also announced he had stepped down from hosting the British Soap Awards and quit ITV altogether will immediate effect.

In the immediate aftermath of Phillip's statement, This Morning viewers called Holly into question for just how much she knew. Now, the presenter has broken her silence to say that Phillip lied to her as well.

Posting on her Instagram story, Holly, who has also hosted Dancing on Ice with Phillip for years, wrote: "It's taken time to process yesterday's news.

"When reports of this relationship first surfaced, I asked Phil directly if this was true and was told it was not. It's been very hurtful to now find out that this was a lie."

Holly's brief statement came hours after a second from ITV with regard to Phillip admission, with the broadcaster explaining it had launched an investigation into claims of an affair three years ago.

The statement added: "Both parties were questioned and both categorically and repeatedly denied the rumours as did Phillip's then agency YMU. In addition, ITV spoke to a number of people who worked on This Morning and were not provided with, and did not find, any evidence of a relationship beyond hearsay and rumour.

"Phillip's statement yesterday reveals that he lied to people at ITV, from senior management to fellow presenters, to YMU, to the media and to others over this relationship."
