Holly Willoughby referenced Mel B on This Morning today, days after the Spice Girls star appeared to take a dig at her and Phillip Schofield. Mel's bandmate Mel C was on the ITV daytime show to chat to the hosts about her new book.
Mel, whose real name is Melanie Chisholm, shot to fame in 1994 alongside Mel B, Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton and Geri Halliwell before becoming internationally known for their message of Girl Power. And her new book will follow her journey from her bedroom in north-west England to global recognition with the group.
Holly, 41, and Phillip, 60, were soon talking to Mel about some of the crazier and wonderful stories in the book. However, there were also moments being in the world's biggest girl group that people wouldn't expect. "You think, wow they must’ve been plucked and taken into this extraordinary showbiz life," Holly said.
She added: "And actually the reality of how you were living when that was number one was entirely different." Mel 48, explained that she was living with Mel B during the early days of their fame. "We were living in a little house, opposite Geri’s mum, and I was on a mattress on the floor when Wannabe was at number one.
"Because of course, you become successful but if you’re lucky enough to have the success that brings you money and wealth, it comes a little bit down the line."
But as she started to tell the story, Mel said of her namesake Mel B: "I think she's watching at home today, hi Mel..." to which Phillip smiled and Holly cut her off, saying: "Morning, Mel."
On Tuesday, during an appearance on Good Morning Britain, Mel B appeared to comment on Holly and Phil's 'queue jump' drama while chatting to Susanna Reid. and Ben Shephard. The pair chatted to Mel B about her experience with the royals following the Queen's state funeral the previous day (Monday).
The Spice Girl was among the last people to be honoured by the Queen when she was made an MBE for services to charitable causes and vulnerable women in the 2022 New Year's Honours, which she collected earlier this year from the new Prince of Wales. And Mel said she was 'welling up' as she spoke about the handwritten letter she received from Her Majesty just a few months ago. "I keep on touching it saying, 'Oh my God, she sent this!" as she showed the scrawl to the camera.
However, Mel turned from interviewee to interviewer as she said to Susanna: "Before I forget, Susanna.... you queued for seven hours. My gosh, I have so much respect for you. I did anyway but even more so now. What was that like?"
Susanna said Mel was "so kind" to ask and said it felt "like a pilgrimage" and it was an "honour to be with all the other people in the queue." But Mel interjected: "No queue jumping for you," to which Susanna gave a slight laugh. She replied: "Well, some people had to work, of course. I was there with my mum who wanted to be there and her friend and it was lovely."
