This Morning’s Holly Willoughby exchanged heated words with ITV show guest Camilla Tominey on Tuesday during a debate about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ’s latest Netflix trailer.
The daytime show host sat down with co-host Phillip Schofield on the ITV sofa to discuss the full-length trailer, which was released last night and is set to drop in full on the streaming giant later this week.
The explosive trailer saw Prince Harry tell the Netflix cameras of ‘dirty games’ at work within the Royal Family, as he spoke of the ‘leaking’ and ‘planting’ of stories to the media.
In the ITV studio, Holly asked journalists Camilla Tominey, Sonia Sodha and Simon McCoy what could come next for the Sussexes after the already divisive docu-series.
Simon replied: “There may be some good to come out of this if it’s putting some focus on racism in the media, in the Royal Family – that is something that perhaps needed to be discussed.”
He then added: “Things have changed dramatically since they departed this country.”
However, Camilla cut in to push back against the suggestion the couple faced media intrusion, asking the guests to name a ‘covert’ paparazzi shot taken of the couple in the UK which was then published in a national newspaper.
Holly responded: “I do remember there were comparisons at the time between how Kate [Middleton] was being treated and how she was being.”
Camilla then replied: “I know, but Holly, even the footage of Kate...,” before Holly cut in: “There was quite a difference there.”
The pair continued to speak over each other before Holly insisted: “I’m saying this because I’m trying to offer another side to this, because I don't like anyone who’s not here.”
Camilla then replied: “The truth of the matter is – I work on a national newspaper and I have covered the Royal Family since 2005.
“The absolute truth of the matter is there is no market for Royal paparazzi shots anymore. “Post-Leveson [inquiry] you don’t see any pictures of the children or the couple in private. Quite rightly the Diana years were too intrusive.”
The latest trailer from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex shows no sign of offering any olive branches to the Royal Family.
Over an image of senior royals on the Buckingham Palace balcony, Prince Harry says: "There's a hierarchy of the family. You know there's leaking, but there's also planting of stories."
The Netflix series is being released on the platform in instalments, with the first three episodes dropping on December 8 and then the following three arriving a week later on December 15.
