Holly Willoughby has returned to This Morning this week alongside Phillip Schofield, but has given a tell tale sign that the shows aren't live, as viewers have hit out at ITV for airing pre-recorded episodes.
It was weeks ago that Holly and Phillip confirmed to viewers that they'd be taking a break over the festive period, confirming they would be on screen for a special episode on Christmas Day. That went out on ITV on Sunday, but was very obviously recorded in advance and, while the presenting duo have returned to screens in recent days, Holly has all but confirmed that she and Phillip aren't actually in the studio in real time, due to her 'silence' on Instagram.
Anyone who follows Holly on Instagram knows that every day, before cameras start rolling on This Morning, she will post a backstage photo to her grid, in her outfit for the show, telling fans where each item is from. However, while she has been back on This Morning this week, there has been a distinct lack of behind the scenes photos, with the last shot posted by Holly being on Christmas Day, when she posted a selfie of her tucking into a tub of Quality Street and writing: "Ya Filthy animals… Merry Christmas."
Holly and Phillip were seen hosting This Morning again on Thursday, right after a 'highlights' episode of Lorraine aired on ITV, after a live edition of Good Morning Britain, with new host Gordon Smart.
And it didn't take long for complaints about the programme being pre-recorded to appear on Twitter, especially when the usual segment of discussing the day's big news stories, with guests Gyles Brandreth and Carol Vorderman, was a look back at things that happened earlier in the year.
One viewer tweeted: "Bit difficult for them to discuss today's news when it was recorded a week or so ago," with a second reacting: "Why we need pre recorded shows until January? Just have a break!
Holly and Phillip did try and keep the pretence up that their were live, talking about leaving the studio decorations up to 'cling onto Christmas' while talking to Davina McCall, when, in reality, the episode was likely filmed weeks ago.
