Holly Willoughby breaks social media silence amid Phillip Schofield affair admission

Holly Willoughby broke her social media silence just moments before her former colleague Phillip Schofield resigned from ITV.

The TV presenter made a return to Instagram after days of staying off the platform. She posted to her Wylde Moon account hours before Schofield admitted to having an affair with a younger male ITV colleague and quit the network.

The photo showed Holly holding a plate to show off the kedgeree she had made, the Mirror reports. The caption read: "Fancy joining Holly and trying @Clodagh_McKenna's Kedgeree?

"Holly says 'It’s simple to make and a complete crowd pleaser whether you’re having it for brunch, lunch or dinner! It may have been the first time I’ve made a Kedgeree but it definitely won’t be the last!' Tap the link in our bio for the full recipe."

The post came before Schofield admitted to an 'unwise, but not illegal' affair with a younger male colleague on This Morning. He resigned from ITV and has parted company with his talent agency, meaning he will no longer host the British Soap Awards or Dancing on Ice.

A spokesperson for ITV said the broadcaster was 'deeply disappointed' by the 'admissions of deceit' made by Schofield after the presenter admitted to the affair in a statement published by the Daily Mail on Friday. The veteran TV presenter, 61, said the relationship began while he was still with his wife Stephanie, adding he was 'very, very sorry' for having been unfaithful to her.

He announced he was stepping down from presenting This Morning with 'immediate effect' last weekend, while co-presenter Holly Willoughby will remain on the programme. Schofield, who also co-hosted Dancing On Ice with Willoughby, said he would also step down from presenting the British Soap Awards, his last public commitment.
