Holly Willoughby has been applauded by This Morning viewers as she clapped back at one of the show's guests before stepping in to control a spirling debate. The presenter was back fronting the ITV daytime programme on Wednesday (January 11) alongside Phillip Schofield and the pair kicked off the midweek show in their usual fashion.
After saying hello to those watching at home and teasing what was to come for the next two and a half hours, the presenting duo headed over to their famous sofa to chat through the latest news headlines with Matthew Wright, who joined them in the studio, and Nick Ferrari, who appeared via video link.
Once again, following the release of his fourth interview to coincide with the release of his headling-grabbing book, Prince Harry was the hot topic of conversation and the discussion took up all of the first half of the segment.
But as it has on other occasions, the discussion became quite heated but this time between Phillip and Matthew. While the latter appeared fed up with the Harry talk, saying the country's focus should be on holding the 'government to account' amid the cost of living crisis and continued strikes across the country, Phillip shared how he had downloaded the Duke's memoir as an audiobook and let the man himself read him a few chapters.
As he gave his views on what he heard, specifically Prince Harry talking about the death of his mother, Princess Diana, the conversation soon spiraled into chaos as Phillip and Matthew spoke over each other and went back and forth. Phillip was able to speak about a bit of Harry's book that made an impression on him, where the Duke of Sussex writes about a fraught meeting with father Charles and brother William, hours after Prince Phillip's funeral in 2021.
"Making it all about him," Matthew fumed. "Why can't he pick up the phone? There's the problem. 'Don't make my life a misery; isn't it a two-way street as a father? What about your son's feelings?" But as Phillip started to reply, Holly, who had been cut out of the conversation alongside Nick, interrupted.
"Listen, guys please," she said, holding her hands up towards the pair. "Don't make the rest of this show a misery," she added as Matthew said: "Give him a hug Charles, give him a hug!" Phillip added: "That's what they all need. They all need a hug."
But it was Holly who came in for praise for something she did manage to say to Matthew during their conversation. @JennyJamesFans tweeted: "@thismorning #thismorning YES HOLLY!!! ‘'Really….don’t you think if you’re going to have an opinion on it, then you should actually read it'. Shut up Matthew." @norfldn2 added: "That’s the 1st time Holly has said something sensible Don’t you think you should read the book before commenting on it #ThisMorning."
