Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield 'to take break' from This Morning amid 'feud'

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield are set to take some time off from This Morning as rumours of a ‘feud’ between the pair continue.

The ITV presenters are said to have ‘cooled’ their 17-year friendship in recent weeks following reports of a fall out behind-the-scenes.

Some viewers have called for 61-year-old Phil to quit the show he has fronted for more than 20 years.

And earlier this week the Mirror exclusively revealed Holly, 42, is also considering her future on This Morning while ITV bosses are set to axe Phil if his on-screen chemistry with Holly is lost.

Amid the reported feud and speculation over the future of the This Morning line-up, Holly and Phil are set to take some time away from the programme.

Holly and Phil are thought to be taking Monday 29 May to Friday 2 June off work for the half-term holiday, returning on Monday June 5, as they usually take school holidays off.

As is usual, other regular presenters – such as Dermot O’Leary, Alison Hammond and Josie Gibson – will step in to host during their absence.

And Holly and Phil appear to be putting on a united front on screen for now, there are reports of a summer shake-up amongst This Morning staff amid reports of a 'bloodbath'.

As reports of an alleged feud began to swirl last week, Phil made a public statement about his friendship with Holly, which is said to have left Holly 'blindsided' and 'deeply upset'.

Phil publicly admitted "the last few weeks haven't been easy for either" in a statement, which neither Holly or ITV reportedly knew he would be making.

He shared: "As I have said before, Holly is my rock. We’re the best of friends – as always, she is an incredible support on screen, behind the scenes and on the phone.

"Holly has really been there for me through thick and thin. And I’ve been there for her. The last few weeks haven’t been easy for either of us."

Despite Phil's statement and gushing comments on Holly, the statement is said to have worsened things, meaning the end could be nigh for Holly and Phil's on-screen relationship.

A source told the Mirror: "This Morning's relationship with its viewers is built on trust, and they have to believe that Holly and Phil’s friendship, and what they're watching, is real.

"While there was a bit of noise and speculation about their relationship cooling, it could have easily been ignored.

"But by putting this statement out there, he has turned what was a manageable situation into a feeding frenzy. If viewers now no longer believe in the pair, and make their views clear next week, make no mistake, ITV will act."
