Holly and Phillip issue heartfelt message to Ukraine - but fans spot virtual flags blunder

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield issued a heartfelt message to Ukraine as the Russian invasion rages on.

Yet some fans were left raising their eyebrows after claiming the virtual flags added to the studio background were the wrong way round.

Introducing the show today, Phil said: "Over the weekend, we've all seen the distressing images that continue to come out of Ukraine."

"Well, there has been an outpouring of support across the world," Holly continued. "Tearful protestors gathered in London over the weekend to express their anger at the Russian invasion."

"Also the demonstrations in Berlin, Milan, Madrid, Tokyo," Phil said. "Even within Russia itself, it was reported that around 2,000 people were arrested. You might have noticed that we've added some Ukrainian flags to our river view this morning to show our support and solidarity with the people of Ukraine.

"If you are watching and you have friends or family there at the moment, we're just sending our best of love and our support."

And while viewers liked that the presenters had paid tribute, some were a little confused that the flags were hanging upside down.

One tweeted with a crying laughing emoji: "You've only got 1 flag the right way round."

While another commented: "Hey @thismorning! You should probably adjust those flags in the background to be the right way round. #ThisMorning."

However, the Ukrainian flag can be hung vertically on public buildings, which must have the blue band to the left or on the right if flown from a vertical flagpole.

It comes after Holly admitted that she is struggling to explain the crisis to her children.

Taking to Instagram on Friday morning, This Morning presenter Holly, 41, shared an image of a military tank and soldiers - confessing that she is struggling to answer her children's questions about the conflict.

After the first day of war in Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy claimed at east 137 people have been killed and 316 injured, following attacks in key cities across the country.

Speaking to her 7.6million followers, Holly wrote: "How do I explain this to my children… I was asked questions last night I didn’t have the answers for…[broken heart emoji]."
