Holly and Phil divide This Morning viewers over 'one-sided' Jeremy Hunt interview

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt joined Phillip Schofield and Holy Willoughby on This Morning but ITV viewers were left divided over the interview and took to Twitter to criticise the hosts while others criticised the Chancellor for avoiding questions.

After announcing his Budget, the Chancellor was quizzed about what the plans mean for people at home.

However, some viewers felt Hunt wasn't being challenged enough on his policies as Schofield and Willoughby questioned the Chancellor on childcare, the NHS and whether he planned to delete social media app TikTok.

Rounding up the interview, Phil asked: "It is alleged that TikTok will be banned off all government devices, does that put an end to your coffee cup stuff?"

"I actually took TikTok off my phone a while ago," he replied as Schofield asked: "Were you told to do that?"

"No, I decided," Hunt said. "I've read this story this morning that all government ministers are going to be asked to but I have to say it was difficult taking it off because it's so addictive and some of those videos are very cleaver but we have to think of security concerns."

One frustrated viewer tweeted: "#ThisMorning is this Phil & Hollys attempt at being the respected journalists."

"#ThisMorning Phill and Holly are really trying to be relatable with these questions," another added and someone else remarked: "Look how Phill and Holly go easy on Tory members. We see you. #ThisMorning."

"What an absolute disgraceful one sided interview of Jeremy Hunt , shame on the presenters on #ThisMorning," another wrote.

However, one fan praised Phil for his style of interview and said: "Phil is actually being useful here #ThisMorning," while another slammed the Chancellor for avoiding the presenters' questions: "@Jeremy_Hunt That wasn't the question asked by @thismorning Answer the question please. What makes you be the Chancellor to be trusted? #ThisMorning."

In Hunt's Budget speech, the Chancellor claimed the UK economy would avoid a recession, with inflation predicted to more than halve by the end of next year.

Eligible working parents with children as young as nine months in England will be offered 30 hours of free childcare but this plan will not be introduced fully until September 2025.

As well as scrapping the £1m cap on the amount people can save for their pensions before it is taxed extra, he increased the annual tax-free allowance on pensions from £40,000 to £60,000.

This Morning airs on ITV on weekdays at 10am.
