Holidaymakers warned over alcohol ban on flights to popular destinations

People flying to some popular holiday destinations have been warned about an alcohol ban on some flights. Ryanair has certain rules around passengers carrying alcohol on flights to some major Spanish holiday hotspots this summer.

Under the rules, which Bristol Live reports have been in effect since 2015, anyone flying with Ryanair from the UK to Ibiza, Alicante, Barcelona, Malaga, Palma and Tenerife South are forbidden from carrying alcohol on board.

The Liverpool Echo reports that the Irish airline has sent emails out to customers with bookings, advising them of the rules, under which any duty-free alcohol purchased will have to be tagged and stored in the hold. They said: "In order to prioritize the comfort and safety of all passengers, Ryanair will implement the following restrictions on your upcoming flight to Spain.

"Customers will not be allowed to carry alcohol on board and all cabin baggage will be searched at the boarding gates. Any alcohol purchased in airport shops or elsewhere must be packed carefully in a suitable item of cabin baggage, which will be tagged at the gate and then placed in the aircraft hold free of charge if you have purchased priority boarding or have a small piece of hand luggage." Anyone found hiding alcohol to bring on board risks being removed from the flight without refund or compensation. Similar rules around alcohol consumption are in effect at several Spanish resorts, where visitors with an all-inclusive booking in areas such as Magalluf, El Arenal, Playa de Palma in Mallorca and Sant Antoni in Ibiza are only allowed six alcoholic drinks a day.
