Holidayers forced to pay extra cash to fly to 30 countries in 2023 visa shakeup

Many people heading overseas from Glasgow will need to cough up extra cash as 2023 travel changes come into force.

Those heading to a number of countries will now need to get a European Travel information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) visa when travelling to places including France, Germany and Italy.

Travellers will be required fill out an online application for the visa via the official ETIAS website or mobile app, with the document costing 7 - roughly £6.20. Applications will take up to four days.

To apply, travellers will need their passport and a payment card to hand, with confirmation being sent by email. The mail will include a unique ETIAS application number that will allow the application process to be followed, reports Birmingham Live.

Once approved, visas will be valid for three years or until the applicants passport expires - whichever comes first.

ETIAS visas will allow access into 30 countries. They are:

  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • Croatia
  • the Czech Republic
  • Denmark
  • Estonia
  • Finland
  • France
  • Germany
  • Greece
  • Hungary
  • Iceland
  • Italy
  • Latvia
  • Liechtenstein
  • Lithuania
  • Luxembourg
  • Malta
  • the Netherlands
  • Norway
  • Poland
  • Portugal
  • Slovakia
  • Slovenia
  • Spain
  • Sweden
  • Switzerland

Plus, three other EU countries

  • Cyprus
  • Bulgaria
  • Romania

Family members of both EU citizens and non-EU nationals who have the right to move throughout the EU freely will be exempt.
