Holiday group wore same underwear for two weeks after missing luggage agony

Fuming families claimed a hard-earned summer holiday was ruined when a baggage mix-up left each person having to wear the same underwear items for the duration of their two-week stay. Nicola Cockayne and her party arrived in the resort of Kalkan in Turkey to find their luggage had not been loaded on to the plane.

The group, made up of families and friends, including a five-year-old and four teenagers, were booked to fly with Turkish-based airline SunExpress to Dalaman from Manchester on July 19. But their cases and pushchair never arrived, NottinghamshireLive reports.

Businesswoman Ms Cockayne raged: "We were waiting for two hours and 40 minutes on the plane then staff said that the luggage would be sent in two days. I’m a single parent. I’d saved up for two years for this holiday just for it to be ruined.

"We made the best of what we could but it wasn’t the holiday we were hoping for. We took barely any photos as we were in the same clothes the whole time."

Ms Cockayne is set to demand compensation from the airline for the distress caused. She said: "The lack of communication was disgusting. How can they leave families for two weeks without luggage? There were people on the flight with younger children. How did they cope?

“We had to wear the same pair of underwear everyday. We had to just wash them every night."

Ms Cockayne, 47, said everyone was given £150 through insurance, but that only covered a certain amount of essentials. She added: “Luckily four of us ladies are the same size so we could share clothes around.

“The five-year-old didn’t have a pushchair so that made it difficult. When he'd fall asleep at a bar at night we'd have to carry him home. I’m going to try and claim for everything, for a ruined holiday. The whole experience was a total nightmare.”

Manchester Airport declined to comment, saying it was not responsible for the baggage making it onto the plane. SunExpress has been approached for comment.
