A holiday expert claims that checking into your hotel later could help you land an all-important complimentary room upgrade. Kate Berski, who is a writer and travel enthusiast, reveals some of her finest hotel hacks on her personal TikTok account @Help_im_30ish.
On which, she promises her followers that following her tips could help 'save you money and hopefully get you a free upgrade as well'. The savvy traveller says that her tricks work 80 per cent of the time, and her biggest of which is not making the mistake of checking in too early.
Kate detailed that the later she arrives at the hotel lobby's check-in desk, the more likely she is to land a bigger and better room. She explained: "That's because they know they're not gonna sell it so they might as well give you a better experience.

The Mirror reports that another helpful hack that Kate suggested for bagging free upgrades galore is signing up to a hotel's loyalty scheme. By doing this, you'll sometimes be gifted freebies, upgrades, discounts and other perks when you visit a brand's property catalogue.
As for saving money, Kate recommended calling hotels directly in a bid to bag the best rates. It's also worthwhile checking the hotel's website online to get exclusive offers and discounts.
And TikTok users were quick to praise Kate's savvy knowledge and intel, flooding the comments sections of her videos with follow up questions from time to time, with the travel guru kindly obliging. One, asked: "How do you ask politely for a upgrade & how do you know it’ll be complimentary?"
To which, Kate, replied: "Tricky! You could politely find fault with your current room and ask to move. Mention a special occasion can also be good. Or just directly asking!"
