Fayette Countians can contribute in many ways to holiday activities at Lexington’s city-run homeless facilities. More than 500 clients in the Hope Center programs may participate in Hope for the Holidays. Destiny Oakley is the assistant director of development.
“We’re still accepting donations of new unwrapped gift items, and gift wrapping materials. Things like that to support that initiative,” said Oakley.
Oakley said the clients participate in emergency shelters, veteran’s and mental health programs, and men’s and women’s recovery projects. She noted all of these programs are at or near capacity.
In addition to special holiday events, Oakley said the need for volunteers is found each day.
“We do three meals a day and it’s just an hour of your time, so it’s a really great option for individuals or groups. We allow all volunteers ages 12 and older,” said Oakley.
The client party is scheduled on December 20th from 10 to 4 at the Don Ball Campus Center.
