Dawn Steele penned a heartfelt tribute to her co-star Hamish Clark ahead of BBC Holby City's final episode airing.
The two worked together early in their careers on Monarch of the Glen from seasons 1-6, before reuniting when Dawn joined Holby City in 2019.
On Tuesday (March 30) Holby City was wrapped up after 23 years on the air, leaving fans of the medical soap gutted.
Dawn, 46, who played Ange Goddard on the BBC soap, described it as "strange and serendipitous" to work alongside her Monarch of the Glen co-star so many years later.
In a sweet Instagram post, Dawn wrote: "This man. Hamish. I was so, so happy to hear that he would be in my last ever episode of Holby City.
"I loved having him there, it was so strange and serendipitous that he was.
"Having him there, just on set, made it all feel complete. It felt so natural to have him there, the same with Simon Slater.
"I did Monarch of The Glen all those years ago ( 23.. I think?) and here we are together again.
"Hamish made the ending easier. Enjoy his wonderful performance tonight"
After Holby City's cancellation was announced, the BBC said in a statement: “We sometimes have to make difficult decisions to make room for new opportunities and as part of the BBC’s commitment to make more programmes across the UK, we have taken the difficult decision to bring the show to a close in order to reshape the BBC’s drama slate to better reflect, represent and serve all parts of the country.”
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank the amazing team at BBC Studios and all the cast and crew who have been involved in the show since 1999.”
It also paid tribute to the medical drama’s run so far and expressed hopes for the show’s conclusion.
"Holby has been a stalwart with audiences, delighting millions of viewers each week and winning hundreds of awards with a compelling mix of cutting-edge medical stories and explosive personal stories,” the statement added.
"We look forward to working with the team over the coming months to ensure that when it ends, Holby goes out on a high."
The official BBC Holby City account tweeted: “We’re very sorry to bring you the sad news that Holby City will come to an end in March next year after 23 amazing years.
“We are so very grateful to all of Holby’s wonderful cast, crew, writers, producers – and to our millions of loyal fans for being part of our show.”
Former cast member Joe McFadden took to twitter to say: “Fond farewell to @BBCHolbyCity on the day of its last episode. Was a special time in my life.”
Meanwhile, actress Kaye Wrag said: “Holby closes its doors tomorrow night […] goodbye and to say how much I loved the show and those who worked there. #holbycity “
