Hogwarts Legacy has been delayed to 2023

Most diehard Harry Potter fans were hoping Hogwarts Legacy, the sprawling western RPG, would be out this fall. Publisher Warner Bros. claimed it would be, but that isn’t the case anymore.

On Friday, developer Avalanche Software announced that Hogwarts Legacy had been delayed to February 10, 2023, for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Interestingly enough, the Switch version seems to be coming at a different date.

“The Nintendo Switch launch date will be revealed soon,” Avalanche said on Twitter. “The team is excited for you to play, but we need a little more time to deliver the best possible game experience.”

The only surprising part about all this is that the marketing for Hogwarts Legacy has been steady since March, suggesting that the release wasn’t far off. There was an entire PlayStation State of Play dedicated to it, even. Avalanche clarified that there wouldn’t be any microtransactions, then released another trailer soon after. Delays happen for many reasons, though, and the final game should be polished rather than a buggy mess. Here’s to hoping that is the case, anyway.

In late June, several leaks came out regarding Hogwarts Legacy, with loads of teasers on the official website.
