HMPV Virus: First case in Bengaluru; 8-month-old tests positive

Bengaluru: A case of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV)  was reportedly detected in Bengaluru. An eight-month-old child in a city hospital tested positive for HMPV.

The HMPV is said to be responsible for a spike in respiratory illnesses in China.

The State Health Department said they didn't get the sample tested in their lab. "The reports have come from a private hospital and we have no reason to doubt the tests of private hospital," a Health Department said.

The HMPV, or Human Metapneumovirus is usually detected in children under the age of 11 and about 0.7 per cent of all flu samples are HMPV.
