A prisoner at County Durham's HMP Frankland was found in possession of a USB stick which contained "Islamic" extremist material.
Ali Abdifatah was serving a sentence for grievous bodily harm and attempted robbery at the category A men's prison in Brasside when he was found with the prohibited USB stick on June 17, 2020.
Durham Crown Court heard that the 25-year-old was "shocked" at the contents of the stick and said he only used it to save Xbox game data.

Abdifatah appeared at the court on Friday to be sentenced for a charge relating to the possession of an item without authority.
He pleaded guilty to the charge at a previous hearing on the basis he did not access the USB's contents.
Dr Christopher Wood, prosecuting said soon after the USB stick was discovered, Abdifatah made a call saying he had been "caught with something" and that he "needs to pay the person it belongs to".
The court heard that following the call, £50 was put into his prison account.
When interviewed, Abdifatah said he used the USB to store game data from his Xbox, which he had been allowed to use during the Covid restrictions.
After the USB stick was examined and the material was found - he denied knowledge and stated he was "shocked" at its contents.
Dr Wood said he gave a prepared statement in interview saying there was a "threat to his life" and that he would answer no further questions.
"No evidence was given by the defendant [to show] that his life was under threat", he said.
The court heard Abdifatah had four previous convictions for 10 offences and is still currently serving a sentence for GBH and attempted robbery.
He is due for release in December and is now incarcerated at HMP Garth in Lancashire.
Matthew Hopkins, mitigating, said there was a suggestion Abdifatah had to "pay" a person after the USB was discovered.
"He tells me only that he had this device and that somebody else wanted it", he said.
"It is not something he wanted possession of, but sometimes in prison one has to do certain things to have an easier life."
He added Abdifatah "did not know it contained the material that it did" and there was "no evidence the material has been disseminated in any way".
Sentencing Abdifatah, whose last listed address was HMP Lowdham Grange, Judge Ray Singh, said the USB contained "Islamic" extremist material.
"You were not aware of its contents but you must have known it was something important," he said.
"It is known from the calls you were making that this was a valuable commodity."
Abdifatah was given a two month prison sentence, which is to be served after his current prison sentence ends.
