Hit and run driver flees Sunderland city car crash leaving three people injured

A driver fled the scene after a crash in Sunderland city centre which left three others injured.

Officers from Northumbria Police arrived at the scene of the collision involving two cars shortly after 8.15pm on Saturday on the junction of Borough Road and Villette Road. Three injured people were found in one car and were taken to hospital for treatment.

Thankfully, those who were found injured at the scene had only sustained what were suspected to be minor injuries. However, the search for the occupants of the other car remains ongoing after officers arrived at the scene and were unable to find them.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 8.15pm on Saturday (March 26) police received a report of a collision involving two cars at the junction of Borough Road and Villette Road in Sunderland. Officers and emergency services attended and three occupants from one of the cars were taken to hospital for suspected minor injuries.

"It was reported that the occupants from the second vehicle had left the scene shortly before officers attended and enquiries to locate them remain ongoing."
