A 1930 Aston Martin race car turned heads when it made a pit stop at the picturesque setting of Belleisle House in Ayr.
And the magnificent LM4 certainly didn’t look out of place when the team tracing its lineage rocked up at the plush Ayrshire estate.
The car and team were in town for a special photocall because the car has mysterious links to the region.
For reasons still unknown, Rolland Cookson, a businessman from the north of England, gave his address as ‘Belleisle House, Ayr’ in October 1931 when he owned it.
Now the race is on to find out more about the car’s links to Burns Country.
And it’s hoped that Bonnie Lass Lee McKenzie, from Ayr, can also help unlock the car’s mysterious history.
Aston Martin historian Steve Waddingham said: “We certainly did turn a few heads on Tuesday and we created a storm. It was amazing, a lot of people turned up.
“We were lucky, actually, because we bumped into F1 TV presenter Lee McKenzie, on her day off – and she’s going to do a segment on it for one of her motoring programmes.
“And along with the social media stuff she’s done, it’s going to raise the profile.
“Hopefully the car’s presence at Belleisle will stir up a few possible memories, or theories that we can follow up on and help us work out why it has links to Ayrshire.”
