Historic photographs of Wales brought to life in full colour

Have you ever wanted to see what Wales' towns and cities really looked like 100 years ago? Well an incredible new feature on InYouArea allows anyone to breathe new life into old photographs.

Memory Lane lets you upload historic black and white images and blast them with colour.

It also shows InYourArea users hundreds of pictures from the past relevant to their area, in association with several online archives including Britain From Above, Francis Frith and the vast picture libraries of our own sister network of national and local newspapers.

WalesOnline put the tool to good use and added a splash of colour to these historical Newport photos.

And if you want to try it out yourself, enter your postcode below to take a trip down Memory Lane yourself and start adding colour to your own images .

Just by signing up with your email address, you’ll get full access to hundreds of thousands of images pulled together from dozens of different online archives including Britain From Above, Francis Frith, our publisher Reach plc’s own library, Geograph and many others.

Your own historic images can also be added to the archive for others to see.
