A HISTORIC hammered silver James V Scottish groat is being sold on eBay for £975.
The item, which is listed on the online marketplace, features James V who was the King of Scotland from 1513 until his death in 1542.
Scotland’s coat of arms, which features a rampant lion, on the other face of the coin.
It is dated by the seller around 1526 as the silver coin was issued for use as a groat in Edinburgh between 1526 and 1539 during the reign of King James V.
According to the seller the “beautiful and very rare coin” is in excellent condition as it features no cracks or chips.
The king of Scotland was famously crowned on September 21, 1513, at the age of just seventeen months old.
A similar James V Groat was sold by the coin collector website Thomas Greaves for £600.

The description of the item reads: “Offered is this superb Hammered Silver Scottish Groat of King James 4th. It is of the second coinage and dates c 1526.
“This coin has no chips or cracks and is on a lovely flat flan.
“It is a beautiful and very rare coin in superb condition but please see the high res images of this coin to determine condition and full ID for yourself.”
