The Crown is once again proving to be a smash hit on Netflix, with over a million people tuning in for the start of the new series, which is proving to be just as controversial as it is popular.
Love them or loathe them, the Royal Family continue to hold the public’s interest and this fictional dramatisation about the reign of Queen Elizabeth II has had audiences enthralled for five series. And it’s not just the over-the-top characterisations of the main ensemble that have held sway, but also the stunning locations that befit royalty that have also scattered the wow factor over proceedings.
And now fans of the show can follow in the footsteps of kings, queens, princes and princesses by staying at a selection of newly launched collection of historic hotels, which plot the regal lineage across its portfolio. There are 31 hotels in the unique Storied Collection, enjoying a combined age of 12,588 years and which have been blessed by the company of the likes of Henry VIII, Queen Victoria, George V and James VI.
Guests can delve into the history and ancestry of these amazing buildings, while also being able to combine the trappings of modern amenities of a hotel with historic, period charm. You can experience for yourself how royalty enjoyed themselves, far from the madding crowd.
Properties include Thornbury Castle in Gloucestershire, a former residence of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, while Inverlochy Castle, near Fort William, had the pleasure of welcoming Queen Victoria for a week of sketching and painting. Fenton Tower, at North Berwick, gave refuge to James VI in 1591, while King George V once stayed ay Ashford Castle, in County Galway, when he was the Prince of Wales.
Justin Hauge, co-founder of Storied Collection is hoping that the latest offering of The Crown will spark a rush of people wanting to immerse themselves in the regal experience that these 31 magnificent properties have to offer. Who doesn’t want to be treated like royalty?
“The British Isles have enjoyed a long and storied history and we’re all about connecting guests with that past,” he said. “Much of the history of these islands has been shaped by royalty and their touch can be found at some magnificent properties in the Storied Collection.
“With the new series of The Crown adding some topical relevance, we’re connecting guests with royal history, helping them to trace that regal lineage for themselves and walk in the footsteps of the monarchs of the past.”
And with data suggesting millions of people are unknowingly descended from aristocracy, including thousands of royal descent, the collection encourages people to explore their ancestry and discover their forebears. Many of these could be connected to the properties that make up Storied Collection.
