Historic high street wants to 'bring the buzz back' to town centre

A Merseyside high street is rebuilding historic links to help 'bring the buzz back' to the town.

Newton-le-Willows High Street has been a bustling area for business and nightlife for years, with many citing the area as one of the key reasons for the town being named one of the hottest spots in the country to move to last year. In a bid to 'strengthen the community', several businesses on the high street strip have banded together to form the 'High Street Hive'.

Building on the legacy of the former 'High Street Hub', almost all businesses on the strip have joined the hive, which allows the array of different shops and bars to collaborate and arrange social and charity events for the town. The upcoming jubilee for Queen Elizabeth II is something the group is keen to make the most of- planning street parties and markets for the town to enjoy over the bank holiday.

The Hive chairperson, Louise Hewett, of Jump-Pad estate agents, told the ECHO : "It's a collaborative effort and we really just want to strengthen the community- it's a community centred idea and we hope to bring people together.

"The Hive is a fresh idea and we really want to support people in the community and also boost our economy, if we can encourage people to shop locally instead of visiting a supermarket, for example- that would be great."

As well as Louise, the Hive's committee is comprised of owners from five other High Street businesses, Drinkworthy craft beer and bottle shop, House of Eden salon, Riddling Rack and the Pied Bull. In addition to the committee, the ECHO has been informed that almost every business on the road has been invited to take part in the collaboration.

With their aim to 'bring the buzz back' to this historic town, and many exciting community and charity events in the pipeline.
