A HISTORIC engineering factory in Angus is facing closure with dozens of workers' jobs under threat of being lost.
Staff at Matrix International, Brechin, have been told their jobs at the East Mill Road factory could be lost, according to The Courier.
The news comes after Matrix staff were told in January last year that manufacturing and parts production would cease, but assembly operations continued.
However, the US-based company owners, Regal Rexnord Corporation, are reportedly considering relocating operations from the Brechin factory elsewhere.
At the time of the 2024 announcement, there were believed to be around 100 Angus employees at the firm.
It is unknown how many workers remain at the site following the reduction in the workforce last year.
According to The Courier, staff were told on Thursday about the plans to close the firm and were informed the company is exploring the transfer of production to other Regal Rexnord facilities. It is not known whether those are in the UK.
Matrix was previously rebranded as Warner Electric as the parent company merged with Milwaukee-based electric motor and transmission components manufacturer Regal Rexnord Corporation.
The company was established back in 1939 by Harry Harley, the chairman of a Coventry engineering firm.
The factory built naval gun turrets and electro-hydraulic mechanisms for anti-aircraft guns during World War II and at the height of wartime production, the then Coventry Gauge and Tool employed around 1000 staff, many of whom were women.
Post-war, the business switched production to commercial contracts. In 1959, Matrix began the production of power transmission products.
The company then expanded its range to include brakes and couplings in the 60s.
