Historic Edinburgh library reveal Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf among 3,000 missing items

A copy of Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf is among 3,000 missing items from Edinburgh's National Library of Scotland according to new information.

Also included in the list of books that have either been swiped, lost of misplaced are a string of sex manuals. Bosses at the library on George IV Bridge say that the infamous German leader's autobiography has likely been stolen or lost.

According to The Scottish Sun, library chiefs say the same applies to other untraceable items such as Alex Comfort's The Joy of Sex - A Gourmet Guide to Lovemaking.

Also gone are poems, songs and letters by famous Scotsman Robert Burns, as well as a copy of his family tree.

Scotch Passion: An Anthology of Scottish Erotic Poetry and a selection of Victorian erotic photography by English artist Graham Ovenden are also unaccounted for, as is Love Without Fear - A Plain Guide to Sex Technique for Every Married Adult.

A freedom of information request into the missing items has revealed a staggering list, with their whereabouts unknown and likely to remain that way forever.

The Edinburgh library is one of the biggest in the UK, holding over 26million physical items on 125 miles of shelving. It includes books, manuscripts, postcards, photos, maps and newspapers.

National Library chiefs said “nothing particularly valuable” was missing. A spokeswoman said the total of misplaced items made up only .014 per cent of holdings.

She added: "It goes without saying that particularly rare or valuable items are not on this list. They are subject to much stricter security protocols."
