A HISTORIC cinema in Aberdeen is set to reopen after a £500,000 funding boost.
Belmont Cinema was the Scottish city's only independent cinema until it abruptly shut its doors in October 2022.
But following a funding boost from Creative Scotland, bosses have said it's "a matter of when, not if" when it comes to the venue returning.
Matt Buchanan, the new chief executive after the cinema was bought by a newly formed community group in 2023, told the Press and Journal he was “absolutely delighted”.
“This is a massive vote of confidence in our vision and hard work," he added.
“It shows that what we’re proposing is on the money.”
Buchanan also told the newspaper that the cinema is still a long way off a definite opening date.
“It’s frustrating, we’d love to say this is it. It’s a little bit up in the air right now.”
