Historic building in Scottish town owned by same family since 1870s brought to market

A HISTORIC building in St Andrews owned by the same family since 1879 has been brought to market.

The property, famed for its ornate oak frontage, was formerly home to the historic book shop J&G Innes, a business which closed at the end of last year.

The shop, located on the corner of Church Street and South Street, is one of the most distinctive in the university town with its ornate branding for the St Andrews Citizen newspaper – founded by the family and now part of the Fife Free Press group of titles.

Partner at Shepherd, which is handling the sale, Jonathan Reid, said: “Formerly occupied by bookshop J&G Innes, the property would be suitable for a variety of retail, commercial and restaurant/café uses.

“While there is potential for subdivision for a variety of uses subject to planning, the remainder of the building is earmarked for conversion to residential flats.”

Known locally as the “citizen shop,” the premises provide around 2444 square feet of accommodation over the ground and first floors of a substantial four storey category C-listed building.

Rental offers from £60,000 are invited and any interested parties should contact the sole letting agent on 01382 878005.
