The Indianapolis Colts brought in Shane Steichen as the new head coach in hopes of turning the franchise into a more stable direction after a disastrous 2022 campaign.
In naming each team’s best offseason move, CBS Sports believes the hiring of Steichen takes the cake for the Colts.
Hiring HC Shane Steichen won’t look nearly as good if his first big QB gamble doesn’t pan out; first-rounder Anthony Richardson is dynamic on the ground but unpolished through the air. And yet he’s got the makings of an adaptable offensive leader, helping shepherd both Justin Herbert and Jalen Hurts in previous stops.
Steichen and Anthony Richardson will likely be tied at the hip for the next few seasons. Their success and/or failures are likely to play into one another so it’s difficult to say which will impact the other more.
Regardless, Steichen was one of the top coaching candidates to hit the market this offseason. His ability to develop and get the most out of the quarterback position is uniquely intriguing with Richardson now aboard.
We’ll see what the future holds for the rookie head coach, but all signs point to this being a strong move to turn the team’s fortunes around.
