Classic hip hop artists Ja Rule, Fat Joe, Slick Rick, and Doug E. Fresh have taken up residency in Las Vegas for DJ Cassidy’s latest “Pass the Mic” concert series. The group will be performing multiple dates at the Bakkt Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.
The inspiration behind the move to Vegas was to capture the old-world charm and sophistication reminiscent of the Rat Pack era. DJ Cassidy expressed his admiration for the classic Vegas vibe and wanted to infuse it with the energy of hip hop and New York culture.
During their time in Vegas, the artists have been immersing themselves in the local scene, often seen dressed in tuxedos while visiting iconic spots like the Golden Steer Steakhouse, a favorite haunt of Frank Sinatra. Ja Rule even took the opportunity to teach DJ Cassidy how to golf, adding a touch of leisure to their Vegas experience.
Public Enemy has also joined the lineup as a rotating act, with Flava Flav delivering a heartfelt speech about the unity and camaraderie among hip hop artists brought together by the residency. The show has seen a range of special guests, including Warren G, Too $hort, Jermaine Dupri, Da Brat, Ghostface Killah, Akon, and Raekwon.
The collective experience of the artists, from golf outings to fine dining and casino adventures, has created a unique blend of hip hop culture and Vegas glamour. DJ Cassidy believes that they have tapped into an iconic Vegas energy that has been absent for some time, setting the stage for a long-lasting collaboration and a revival of the city's entertainment scene.
