People now hoping to capture some of Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations on the streets of Hillsborough this June, can do so knowing they are only yards away from a revamped public toilet.

A council spokesperson said: “ Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council awarded an eight week contract to improve the public toilets on the Main Street in Royal Hillsborough.

“The planned works to improve these public conveniences include the installation of new toilets, hand basins and a baby changing facility alongside re-tiling and painting.

“The council funded these works, which commenced on the 4th April and the cost of the contract is £61,526.”

There are four public toilets operated by the local authority with two in Lisburn and one in Moira, which all open daily from 9am to 6pm, including Royal Hillsborough.

The ribbon cutting on the refurbished Main Street facility is expected to reopen the toilets in the coming days.
