When it comes to living room decor, sofas reign supreme in their ability to bring comfort and style to a space. One sofa continues to dominate trends with its minimal-yet-bold appearance, most notably via its grainy texture: boucle.
Hilary Duff is on board with the style, having recently posted a photo of her own grand boucle sofa in her living room. The cream couch contrasts her opaque, blue curtains, making for a combination of delightful textures.
Experts say that this design trend is on par with what we see on people's bodies; that is, a relaxed but chic appearance.
'Like with designer luxury fashion that's very much gone down the casual styling, athleisure route, so have sofas,' says Lucy Mather, sofa specialist at Arighi Bianchi. 'There are now lots more oversized luxury sofas featuring pillow back designs and boucle fabrics.'
Gone are the days of stuffy or stiff sofas taking up space in our homes. The boucle sofa is a prime example of our desire to achieve comfort and style in our space, a top priority for so many of us.
'The sumptuous sofa trend is very much a part of the idea that comfort is king,' Mather explains. 'In an uncertain world, we want to feel cocooned and safe when we get home from a busy day. Snuggling down on an almost bed-like sofa is very much a part of this.'
Mather also says that boucle sofas are excellent options looking to make a statement in the living room, and stray away from uniformity.
'There is also a move away from the formalness of matching sets – which is great if you just want to switch up your sofa and keep other seating within the scheme.'
As far as colors go, Mather says that muted shades go best, but ultimately,the palette is a personal choice.
'Neutrals work well with this vibe - including pastel shades of green and pink – but color choice doesn’t define this style … it’s about the luxury of casual styling that makes us feel fantastic.'
