Hilarious Rangers fans are trying too hard as runners up prizes are worthless and history shows Celtic are top dogs – Hotline

As the curtain falls on another Scottish football season, the age-old arguments over which club stole the show never gets tired.

Hotline callers all made their case for either Rangers or Celtic in the usual tit-for-tat trophy count.

Bud Hay, Dumfries, said: "I nearly choked on my cornflakes when I read Rangers fans in the Hotline bragging after winning one trophy out of four. If Gio van Bronckhorst had not won the Scottish Cup he would have been sacked but already the fans are bragging about what they are going to win next year. They can dream on."

Liam Birney emailed: "It was a major blow to the Rangers players when Steven Gerrard jumped ship. The new manager has done a great job lifting them up and don’t be surprised to see a stronger team next year."

Allan Morrison said: "This Cup Final proved the gap between the Old Firm and the rest of Scottish football is permanent. Not in my lifetime and not my grandson's will a team outside the top two ever win the Premiership. The rest of us make do with a cup and maybe avoid relegation."

Eddie Easson, Ballingry , said: "Let me state the obvious, the history books don't lie. It will be recorded that Celtic won the 2021-22 season. Nothing will be mentioned about so-called best teams, only winners and losers will be written down.

"It is the same with the Europa League Rangers lost so deal with it. You don't hear Celtic rattling on about losing the 1970 European Cup Final when they went down to Feyenoord. Second prizes are worthless."

John Bruce emailed: "Last season Rangers won the league by a record 25 points and stopped 10-in-a-row. This season they reached a European final, taking their eye off the league to throw it away, but won the Scottish Cup, all with no strikers.

"They have lost only three out of 77 league games and have only lost two out of the last 10 Old Firm games.

"With almost £20million banked from their European run, millions more from record merchandise sales and player sales still to come, Rangers will look to improve on all these figures – and their squad – next season. It's daunting news for all their domestic opponents."

Henry Moffat, Stirling, said: "How hilarious to read Rangers fans trying way too hard in the Hotline to pretend this season has been a successful one. They had three chances to qualify for the Champions League and fell at every hurdle.

"Winning the Europa League Final was the only way out of that, and they know it."

Arrin Geddes, Irvine, said: "Well done Rangers on their second major trophy win in 31 attempts, runners up in the league but still the best team in Scotland. Really?"

Gordon Ashley, Ayr, said: "What a great end to a fantastic season for Celtic by holding on to their record as the only team in European football to have won the European Cup quadruple. Along with being the only club in world football to do an invincible treble, it proves that we are the greatest club in Scotland historically as well as this season's best team."

Derek Ferguson emailed: "After another amazing man of the match performance from young Calvin Bassey, he can no longer be called 'Shirley'. He is now 'The Calvinator'. When clubs from down south come calling Rangers must ask for a minimum of £30m. That's perfectly reasonable considering Arsenal paid £25m for a full-back who can get injured putting his boots on."

Robert Livingstone, Palm Beach, said: "Record Sport's Keith Jackson hit it right in the head, the major priority for Rangers is finding a striker to play with or replace Alfredo Morelos. One that all Rangers fans would gladly welcome at Ibrox is Lawrence Shankland, he can score goals and would be an asset."
