A Scots hair stylist had to do a ‘double take’ after spotting an alpaca hanging out a car window on a busy Airdrie street.
Kirsty Shilliday was on her way to a doctor’s appointment when she pulled up to the traffic lights on the town’s High Street.
The 38-year-old’s jaw dropped when she saw the large animal suddenly pop it’s head out the vehicle window to have a wee look around.
As the car began moving again, the brown critter moved back inside as if nothing had happened.
Kirsty, who owns AtomikBlondz hair salon, shared the clip on TikTok and Facebook where it has since had more than 200,000 views.
She told the Daily Record: “It’s not everyday you see an alpaca popping its head out of a Zafira window.
“I’ve been in bed unwell for the last few days because I’ve pneumonia and I was going to the doctors yesterday when I saw it.
“I genuinely didn’t know what I was seeing at first and I actually had to double take. I was like ‘that’s an awfully big dog’. But it definitely wasn’t one.
“I’d literally stopped at the traffic lights and when I looked up there was an alpaca hanging out the window.
“It sort of popped its head out, had a wee look about and when the lights changed, it just went back in the window.
“It was absolutely mental. I thought to myself ‘that’s definitely an alpaca. You’re seeing what you’re seeing and I’m not going off my head’.”
Kirsty added: “I took the video not realising that it would go the way it went. Between TikTok and Facebook it has had about 200,000 views.
“It nearly broke my phone with the amount of notifications that have been coming through.
A few people have commented and said her name is Annie and apparently she was at one of the high schools in Coatbridge.
“I’ve obviously seen her being transported back to wherever she lives. She just looked as if she didn't have a care in the world.
“She must be very well trained, hence why she’s been in the car.”
