A hiker had to be airlifted to safety after a horror fall near the summit of a Scots munro.
The hillwalker had been scaling Ben Cruachan in Argyll and Bute during the evening of Monday, September 12, when they plummeted near the peak of the mountain. They were left with multiple fractures as a result and had had to be put on a stretcher before being winched onboard a Coastguard.
Crews from Oban Mountain Rescue also scrambled to the incident 'just as light was falling' to assist with the rescue operation. Dramatic images from the scene show multiple volunteers responding to the emergency incident as a rescue helicopter hovers above.
The climber's current condition is unknown.
A statement from Oban Mountain Rescue reads: “Team responded to a casualty high on Ben Cruachan last night with multiple fractures following a fall. Team located casualty and packaged and stretched them below the cloud level and winched onboard Coastguard helicopter Rescue 199 just as light was failing.”
