'Highly visible' flat fire in west London kills two cats amid major firefighter response

Around 60 firefighters tackled a blaze at a block of flats in west London on Sunday evening which killed two cats.

The London Fire Brigade said eight fire engines were called to a fire at a block of flats on Amber Way in Hammersmith shortly before 6pm.

Part of a three-roomed flat on the fifth floor in the seven storey block of flats was destroyed by fire in a highly-visible blaze which caused 20 emergency services calls.

Firefighters said two cats died at the scene but no further injuries were reported.

The Brigade's 999 Control Centre received their first call to the fire at 5.48pm, with the fire deemed under control by 6.43pm..

Fire crews from Acton, Chiswick, Kensington, North Kensington, Paddington, Ealing and Chelsea fire stations were called to the scene.

A LFB spokesperson said the cause of the blaze is under investigation.
