A Highland Perthshire hotel that bills itself as the oldest in Scotland has abruptly closed until 2023 after being bought over.
The Kenmore Hotel has been sold to an unnamed buyer and major refurbishments are to take place during the inactive period.
The historic inn near Aberfeldy, which dates back to 1572, served its last customer on Thursday, March 31 and ceased operations after general manager William Inglis said staff had endured “two turbulent years” due to the pandemic.
The 450-year-old venue overlooks the River Tay and the idyllic Perthshire countryside, which made it a popular place for loved-up couples to tie the knot.
A statement from general manager William Inglis said: “Following the last two turbulent years the current owners of the Kenmore Hotel have accepted an offer to sell the Kenmore Hotel.
“The hotel will be closed from March 31, 2022 while the new owners consider a full refurbishment of the hotel.
“As this may be extensive the hotel will remain closed until 2023, although the exact date will be set once a full programme of refurbishment is complete.
“We thank you for your continued support and interest.”
The hotel had to temporarily close at periods during the pandemic due to COVID outbreaks.
While back in September the Kenmore Hotel announced they would not be able to serve evening meals for a few days due to staff shortages.
Local councillor Mike Williamson blamed a lack of affordable housing in rural Perthshire as the “biggest single factor” in hospitality staff shortages at the time, with Brexit and COVID also playing their part.
Mr Inglis also asked that any queries be sent to reception@kenmorehotel.com
