ORLANDO, Fla. — The high-tech spacesuits worn by NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Douglas Hurley in last year’s launch will be a display for a limited time at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.
The suits will be seen in the lower level of the Space Shuttle Atlantis attraction, enclosed in a way that they can be seen in 360 degrees. The helmets are 3-D printed, the gloves are touch-screen sensitive, and the each of the two custom suits is a single piece.
The flight of Hurley and Behnken was the first to take off from American soil in nine years. The duo traveled to the International Space Station aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket. After 63 days, they splashed down safely in the Crew Dragon capsule in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Pensacola.
The visitor center has other spacesuits on display including Alan Shephard’s suit (still covered in moon dust) and Mercury & astronaut Gus Grissom’s spacesuit at the Heroes and Legends display. All are included in regular admission to the Brevard County attraction.
