A major west London Tube station was evacuated during Wednesday morning’s rush hour after a track fire.
The “small” blaze at Kensington High Street station forced it to temporarily close and for commuters to be evacuated as firefighters dealt with the problem.
A train driver allegedly tried to put out the blaze themselves before firefighters arrived, Metro reported.
There was no service between High Street Kensington and Edgware Road as firefighters extinguished the blaze.
The Circle and District Lines remained severely delayed as a result as of 9am Wednesday morning.
It was the latest commuter misery after the Elizabeth Line was suspended between Paddington and Abbey Wood for a second day running due to signalling issues.
The disruption is expected to last until the end of the day.
In addition, severe disruption was reported on the Thameslink, Gatwick Express and Southern networks until midday due to “multiple incidents” between London Blackfriars and St Pancras International.
This was mainly flooding in a tunnel at Farringdon station, Network Rail said, blocking some lines.
